The N2 highway near Mtubatuba in northern KwaZulu-Natal has been closed following a cash-in-transit heist on Thursday morning.

According to reports, two cash vehicles were ambushed by an unknown number of armed suspects. One of the vehicles was bombed, and multiple gunshots were fired before the suspects fled the scene.

Emergency services responded swiftly, with KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service confirming that one person sustained minor injuries. "KwaZulu Private Ambulance services rendered immediate medical attention to a patient who, fortunately, only suffered minor injuries," said spokesperson Craig Botha.

Law enforcement and emergency teams remain on the scene, and the South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched an investigation into the incident. Motorists are advised to avoid the area as authorities work to clear the scene and gather evidence.
