The Premier's office in KwaZulu-Natal has ramped up efforts to address the growing issue of gender-based violence (GBV) in the province, with new initiatives aimed at tackling the crisis.

On Tuesday, Deputy Director Nkosenye Zulu participated in a discussion in Umhlanga, hosted by the Commission for Gender Equality, where men from various sectors, including traditional leaders, gathered to brainstorm solutions to GBV.

Zulu highlighted the local government's actions, noting, "We have renovated 30 victim-friendly rooms at police stations across the province. Additionally, we have forged partnerships with South African Breweries to implement the No Excuse Campaign, which aims to combat toxic masculinity, alongside support from United Nations agencies and traditional leader forums."

Mduduzi Ngube of the House of Traditional Leaders emphasized the crucial role men can play in addressing gender inequality. "The news reports on gender-based violence and femicide show that we still have a long road ahead in achieving true gender equality in our country," Ngube said.

The increased collaboration between government, traditional leaders, and various organizations highlights a unified effort to create a safer, more equal society in KwaZulu-Natal.
