KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has stressed the importance of using climate-resilient building materials to reduce the risk of structural collapses in the province, following a series of deadly flash floods and extensive property damage caused by recent heavy rains.
Speaking during the debate on the State of the Province Address in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday, Ntuli revealed that discussions with building suppliers have already begun. "We are advancing conversations with manufacturers of building materials to ensure they understand the need for materials that are climate-friendly and capable of withstanding the changing weather patterns," Ntuli said.
The Premier also reiterated the government's commitment to fighting corruption, highlighting the actions taken by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) in several entities and municipalities. He added that the establishment of forensic units within government offices has led to a growing number of cases, underlining the administration's determination to tackle corruption at all levels.
As KwaZulu-Natal continues to recover from the recent floods, Ntuli's statements reflect the province's efforts to build a more resilient infrastructure and ensure transparency in governance.
