Authorities at OR Tambo International Airport have arrested a Nigerian national suspected of smuggling drugs into the country. The 55-year-old man was intercepted upon arrival from São Paulo, Brazil.

Following an X-ray scan, police discovered that the suspect had swallowed multiple objects believed to contain cocaine. He later expelled the drugs from his system while in custody.

The suspect is expected to appear in court later this week.

This arrest comes just two months after law enforcement apprehended two other drug mules at the same airport, seizing cocaine worth an estimated R7.5 million. Authorities continue to intensify efforts to curb drug trafficking through South Africa’s busiest airport.
