Extreme weather conditions are expected to persist across South Africa this week, with heavy rains, strong winds, and a significant drop in temperatures forecasted nationwide.
On Tuesday, a tornado tore through Tshwane, damaging buildings, knocking out traffic lights, and uprooting trees in several areas. Meanwhile, relentless rainfall has led to widespread flooding in the North West, affecting major roads, including the N18 outside Mahikeng, the N12 near Stilfontein, the R30 between Klerksdorp and Ventersdorp, and the R503 at Hartbeesfontein.
According to the South African Weather Service, the central parts of the country will see an 80% chance of showers and thundershowers until Friday, while the rest of the country can expect between 30% and 60% rainfall.
Additionally, a high fire danger warning has been issued for the Northern Cape, the West Coast District, and the Cape Winelands. Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant as adverse conditions continue.
