KwaZulu-Natal health officials have conducted a workshop with school principals in Durban to address the spread of hand, foot, and mouth disease. The province has recorded 117 cases in over 10 primary schools, creches, and daycare centres in just over a week.

Babongile Mhlongo, Head of Communicable Disease Control, emphasized the importance of hygiene and reassured school leaders amid rising concerns. The virus, which spreads through droplets and shared objects, poses challenges in classrooms, especially among young children. Officials have urged schools to limit the sharing of toys and ensure frequent cleaning of surfaces to curb transmission.
