Eskom has announced the suspension of rolling blackouts, attributing the decision to the successful replenishment of emergency reserves. The power utility assured the public that updates will be provided should any significant changes arise.
Scheduled outages were implemented over the weekend to restore depleted reserves, following the breakdown of six generating units at various power stations.
“We started to see in early January that things were slipping, things that were meant to come back to service were not coming back to service, and that escalated,” said Eskom board chairperson Mteto Nyati.
“This weekend, our focus has been on replenishing our reserves.”
Eskom continues to monitor the stability of the power grid, emphasizing the importance of ongoing maintenance efforts to prevent future disruptions.
