Former president Jacob Zuma’s daughter and uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party MP, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, has been released on warning by the Durban Magistrate’s Court. She faces charges under the Protection of Constitutional Democracy Against Terrorist and Related Activities Act (POCDATARA) and incitement to commit violence linked to the 2021 July unrest.

Zuma-Sambudla is set to return to court on March 20. Her arrest adds to the 69 people charged in connection with the riots, which claimed 354 lives and caused over R50 billion in economic losses. So far, only one conviction has been secured.

The unrest erupted after Jacob Zuma’s arrest for defying a Constitutional Court order. MK Party eThekwini regional coordinator Nhlanhla Shezi criticized the legal process, arguing that social media commentators are being targeted while the “real culprits” remain unpunished. The party has vowed to support Zuma-Sambudla and other members facing similar charges.
