Supporters of the Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party are expected to gather at the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday morning as Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla makes her first court appearance.

The 42-year-old daughter of former president Jacob Zuma is facing charges linked to her alleged role in the July 2021 unrest, though details of the charges remain unclear at this stage.

The MK Party has condemned the case against Zuma-Sambudla, calling it an abuse of state institutions. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the party—founded by her father—urged its supporters to mobilize in solidarity with the MP.

During the 2021 riots, a series of inflammatory social media posts were allegedly shared from her account. The violent unrest, which erupted following Jacob Zuma’s imprisonment for contempt of court, led to the deaths of over 300 people.

A year after the riots, prosecutors in KwaZulu-Natal were questioned about whether Zuma-Sambudla was under investigation for incitement. At the time, the provincial Director of Public Prosecutions stated that any case against her would require sufficient evidence to proceed.

Her court appearance is expected to draw significant political attention, with MK Party members set to demonstrate their support.
