A search operation is underway for a 21-year-old man who is believed to have drowned at Scottburgh Point Main Beach on the KZN South Coast.
According to eyewitnesses, the young man, from aMahlongwa, went missing on Monday night.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has deployed divers to search the waters, while a police helicopter has joined the effort, conducting air, sea, and shoreline searches.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon confirmed that an NSRI Rocky Bay crew member initially raised the alarm after receiving reports from bystanders.
“Police divers, assisted by NSRI Rocky Bay, are continuing their search efforts,” said Lambinon.
Authorities have extended their thoughts and support to the missing man’s family during this difficult time.
