A child protection organization is calling for bail to be denied for a Gauteng couple facing charges of distributing child pornography. Darren Wilken and his girlfriend Tiona Moodley are scheduled to appear in Randburg Court on Tuesday to apply for bail.
The couple was arrested following the discovery of more than 10 million illicit images and videos of children at Wilken's home in Midrand last week. The operation that led to their arrest followed extensive investigations by international law enforcement teams.
Miranda Jordan, a representative of Women and Men Against Child Abuse, has called for the case to be escalated to the High Court, highlighting the severity of the crime. "Given the nature of this crime, granting either access to the internet or an electronic device poses a severe risk of evidence tampering and further distribution of child sex abuse material,” Jordan said.
