The woman at the center of a tragic love triangle involving the murder of Durban businessman Shailen Singh attempted to present her side of the story in court during the bail application of the two accused brothers, Ferrel and Darren Govender.
The brothers are charged with Singh’s murder, which took place in Umhlanga in December. On Monday, their bail application was heard in the Durban Magistrate's Court.
Advocate Paul Jorgenson, representing the woman, briefly joined the proceedings, requesting that the court accept their application and submit her version of events. He stated that her affidavit clarifies footage shown in court of her being assaulted, which was presented by the State. The woman also disputes the accuracy of the investigation officer’s account and claims she has never been interviewed or asked to provide a statement.
Prosecutor Nkululeko Masiya opposed the request, arguing that the woman is a state witness with no direct involvement in the bail application. Masiya accused Jorgenson of attempting to introduce new evidence.
Magistrate Kevin Broughton rejected the request, deeming it unusual and stating that the matter should be addressed during the trial.
