KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has dismissed recent corruption allegations against him, claiming they are part of a smear campaign aimed at derailing his investigations into senior South African Police Service (SAPS) officials.
Mkhwanazi, who spoke exclusively to eNCA senior reporter Dasen Thathiah, suggested that the accusations come from unnamed individuals seeking to tarnish his reputation and undermine his efforts to root out misconduct within the police ranks.
“There is a war brewing among senior officers,” Mkhwanazi said, adding that he remains committed to his investigations despite the apparent attempts to discredit him.
The commissioner’s remarks highlight ongoing tensions within SAPS leadership as efforts to tackle corruption face internal resistance.
