Authorities have launched a manhunt for two suspects who escaped during a shootout with police in Cato Manor. The incident unfolded on Friday after security officers tracked a stolen cell phone linked to a liquor store robbery in Chatsworth.
According to KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesperson Robert Netshiunda, the phone’s signal led officers to a residence in Chesterville. Upon arrival, suspects inside the house opened fire on police, prompting officers to return fire.
During the exchange, one suspect was fatally shot, another was injured, and four others were taken into custody. Police also recovered a firearm, a replica gun, and multiple rounds of ammunition. Inside the residence, officers found stolen alcohol believed to be linked to the Chatsworth robbery.
“No police officers were injured during the shootout,” Netshiunda confirmed.
Law enforcement agencies are continuing their search for the two fugitives.
