Traffic volumes along the N3 in KwaZulu-Natal are surging as holidaymakers make their way to the coast in the lead-up to Christmas. According to the N3 Toll Concession (N3TC), nearly 1,400 vehicles per hour passed through the Tugela Toll Plaza by 11 a.m. on Friday, while over 1,100 vehicles were recorded at the Mooi River Toll Plaza. Earlier in the week, traffic peaked at over 1,500 vehicles per hour.

N3TC Chief Operating Officer Thania Dhoogra advised motorists to exercise caution, particularly with the possibility of rainy weather persisting. “Changing weather patterns have resulted in rainy weather conditions during the week. These may continue in the coming days and may lead to difficult driving conditions due to reduced visibility and slippery roads,” Dhoogra said.

Dhoogra urged drivers to remain vigilant, patient, and courteous. She emphasized the importance of adhering to road safety measures, including keeping headlights on for better visibility and strictly following traffic rules.

With increased holiday traffic and unpredictable weather, motorists are reminded to prioritize safety to ensure a smooth and accident-free journey during the festive season.
