KwaZulu-Natal’s south coast is under an Orange Level 5 weather warning on Wednesday, with the South African Weather Service cautioning residents about potential flooding of homes and roads. The rest of the province is under a Yellow Level 2 alert as wet and stormy conditions are expected to persist throughout the week.
Several districts, including Amajuba, Zululand, and uThukela, have already experienced heavy rainfall from the recent long weekend. In uThukela, strong winds caused significant damage to homes in at least five wards within the Inkosi Langalibalele Municipality, while Ladysmith faced widespread power outages.
Eskom teams are working to restore electricity in affected areas, including uMgababa, Port Edward, and Mtubatuba.
KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi confirmed that relief efforts are underway, with officials currently assessing the extent of the damage.
"We urge our people to stay safe and avoid being on the road to protect themselves," said Buthelezi.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take precautions as adverse weather conditions continue to impact the region.
