Eskom has issued a final warning to consumers with prepaid electricity meters, reminding them that the extended grace period to recode their meters ends this Friday. The original November 24 deadline was postponed after some users faced challenges with the switchover process.

In its statement, Eskom urged customers to regularize their accounts and purchase electricity from authorized vendors. The recoding initiative is part of the utility’s transition to the KRN2 project, which has already successfully updated 5.64 million prepaid meters, including 400,000 previously inactive accounts.

Eskom cautioned that failure to update meters by Friday could result in fines of up to R12,000. Customers are advised to visit Eskom centres promptly to avoid penalties and ensure continued access to electricity.
