The Verulam Business Forum has raised concerns over the growing brazen nature of thieves in the Durban North area. Chairperson Sagren Venkatas expressed shock and concern following a recent armed robbery at a local school that left residents shaken.

Authorities report that the school secretary was accosted in her office by robbers who demanded the funds raised during a recent fundraising event. The thieves made off with the money, highlighting the increasing audacity of criminals in the area.

Venkatas noted a worrying rise in daytime crimes in Verulam, with incidents involving criminals armed with knives becoming more frequent. "It was a horrific incident due to how it unfolded, with the hard-earned money raised for school fees being stolen," he said. "This is part of a broader trend of crimes taking place in the area."

The Verulam Business Forum is calling for stronger measures to tackle the escalating crime rate and ensure the safety of residents and businesses in the community.
