The N3 Toll Concession has announced that traffic volumes heading towards Durban are expected to rise significantly from midday today. Authorities have confirmed that all toll plaza lanes will remain open during peak traffic periods to manage the anticipated flow of vehicles.
However, road users are being warned to expect congestion and delays as traffic increases.
Thania Dhoogra, Chief Operating Officer of the N3TC, stated that the majority of the traffic will be traveling southbound towards Durban, though there will also be an uptick in traffic on the northbound lanes heading towards Johannesburg.
Dhoogra further emphasized safety concerns, citing data from the N3TC that showed 75% of light motor vehicle crashes and 81% of truck accidents on the N3 between January and October this year were caused by human factors, including driver negligence, reckless behavior, and poor decision-making.
