The closure of the Lebombo border post and the suspension of operations at the Port of Maputo have severely disrupted trade, leading to a significant halt in goods moving in and out of Mozambique. These disruptions are a result of ongoing post-election protests in the country.

The Road Freight Association has warned that the economy is losing approximately R10 million per day due to the blockage. While the immediate impact is substantial, the association also expressed concerns over a potential long-term crisis, with customers potentially shifting to new suppliers if the situation continues.

This disruption is a serious blow to trade between South Africa and Mozambique, affecting supply chains and raising the risk of lasting economic consequences.
