The Road Accident Fund (RAF) has raised alarms over a growing trend where individuals are intentionally stepping in front of moving vehicles in a bid to claim compensation. The RAF has issued a stern warning, stating it will not process claims related to these deliberate incidents.
National RAF Spokesperson Mcintosh Polela confirmed that the fund has been receiving an increasing number of reports from concerned drivers. "We are hearing from drivers who have observed individuals standing in front of cars or waiting on the roadside, seemingly waiting for vehicles to slow down or make contact. Initially, we thought these videos were jokes or content for social media, but the situation has escalated, with drivers now worried about their safety and the potential for being found liable," said Polela.
In a statement released yesterday, the RAF emphasized its firm stance on such fraudulent behavior. The fund clarified that it does not compensate individuals who intentionally cause accidents, even if these actions result in serious injuries. In cases of death, the RAF further stated that those responsible for their own misfortune would also not be eligible for compensation.
