Five men charged with the murder of rapper Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes are scheduled to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Friday. AKA, along with his friend Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane, was tragically shot and killed outside a restaurant in February of last year.

The case was previously postponed in August, with the court granting the state a final extension to allow for further police investigations. State prosecutor Advocate Lawrence Gcaba indicated that additional arrests could follow, depending on the outcome of an ongoing probe into an R800,000 payment made to one of the accused, who is believed to have played a significant role in the murders.

In a related development, two other suspects arrested in Eswatini are challenging their extradition order.

Earlier this year, AKA’s father, Tony Forbes, expressed doubts that the mastermind behind the killings had been apprehended. While confident in the state's case, Forbes continued to question the motives of those arrested, stating, "I still do not believe what would be the motive of this particular organiser to kill my son. I believe the mastermind is still out there." He also praised the efforts of the investigation team, noting the significant resources, including the R800,000 payment, that had been put into the case.
