The Road Accident Fund (RAF) has intensified efforts to combat fraud, preventing over R1 billion in fraudulent claims over the past three financial years. According to RAF spokesperson McIntosh Polela, more than 2,000 false claims totaling R65 million were blocked as part of the fund’s anti-corruption drive.
The crackdown forms part of a broader strategy to safeguard resources meant for road crash victims and their families. Polela highlighted that the RAF’s fraud detection measures are also helping to speed up the processing of legitimate claims.
“The RAF is pleased to have stopped these fraudulent claims,” said Polela. “What makes us even more satisfied are the convictions obtained, which send a strong message that neither the courts nor the RAF will tolerate attempts to defraud this state institution.”
The RAF’s efforts underscore its commitment to ensuring that resources are directed to those genuinely in need while maintaining the financial stability of the fund.
