Rand Water and Joburg Water have reached an agreement to significantly reduce the daily water supply to Johannesburg as part of efforts to manage demand and conserve resources.

Under the agreement, Rand Water will lower its supply to Johannesburg Water to 1,356 megalitres per day by September 2025. This marks a substantial reduction from the current daily supply of 1,750 megalitres.

The decision comes amid ongoing efforts to address water usage in the City of Gold, which faces increasing pressure on its resources due to population growth, climate challenges, and infrastructure strain.

Both entities have emphasized the importance of sustainable water management and have urged residents to adopt water-saving practices to support the transition.

Further details on the implementation of the reduced supply and its impact on service delivery are expected to be communicated in the coming months.
