The Border Management Authority (BMA) is closely monitoring escalating protests in Mozambique following calls from opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane for a three-day demonstration over last month’s disputed presidential election.

Protests have led to significant disruptions, blocking roads and halting public transport in the capital, Maputo. BMA Deputy Commissioner Mmemme Magotsi confirmed that authorities have heightened vigilance near the border as tensions continue to rise in the region.

"The ongoing demonstrations have resulted in the partial closure of key routes, affecting the movement of trucks," Magotsi said. "Despite the presence of Mozambique's defense forces and police in the area, the road remains inaccessible for truck traffic."

The BMA continues to monitor the situation closely as protests threaten to escalate further, impacting both local and cross-border logistics.
