The Durban Regional Court has sentenced Mfanafuthi Madlala and Sifiso Sokhulu to life imprisonment for the murder of taxi owner Siyabonga Ngcobo. The fatal shooting occurred on July 10, 2022, while Ngcobo was driving his minibus taxi along Ramchad Road in Greenwood’s Effingham area.

Provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda detailed the events, stating, “When police arrived at the scene, Ngcobo was found inside his Quantum with gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene.” The case was immediately taken over by the Provincial Taxi Violence detectives, who swiftly arrested the first suspect on the same day, recovering a licensed firearm in the process.

The second suspect was apprehended the following day. Investigators gathered compelling evidence linking both men to the crime, ensuring they were denied bail throughout the legal process. “Both suspects were also declared unfit to possess firearms,” added Netshiunda.

The court's ruling underscores the success of the dedicated investigative team in securing justice for the victim and addressing taxi-related violence in the region.
