The final matric exams for the Class of 2024 officially concluded this week, marking the end of a five-week examination period. In KwaZulu-Natal, more than 190,000 full- and part-time candidates began writing their National Senior Certificate papers in late October.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education expressed satisfaction with how the exams were conducted, reporting no irregularities, leaks, or disruptions.
As matrics celebrate the end of their exams, the Department of Basic Education has issued a cautionary message, urging students to avoid reckless behavior during celebrations. Minister Siviwe Gwarube warned against alcohol abuse at pens down events and matric rage parties, emphasizing the importance of safety.
“These moments of celebration should not risk life and safety. It is absolutely important that you do not engage in reckless behaviour,” Gwarube stated at a media briefing on Wednesday.
Marking of the exam papers is set to begin on December 1.
