The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has acknowledged internal tensions within its ranks, attributing them to the diverse political backgrounds of its members. The announcement was made during a media briefing on Wednesday as the party outlined preparations for its first anniversary celebrations, set to take place next month at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Since its establishment, the MKP has risen rapidly to become South Africa's third-largest political organisation, a milestone marked by both growth and challenges.

High command member Advocate Dali Mpofu addressed the party’s initial hurdles, emphasizing that such challenges are common in newly-formed political movements. “Anybody who has ever been involved in a new political organisation will know that it must have teething problems. If it doesn't, then you must know that there is something wrong,” he said.

Mpofu highlighted the party’s remarkable achievements in its first year, noting, “On our maiden arrival, we became the official opposition of South Africa. That's not a small thing.”

He assured members and supporters that steps are being taken to address these issues. “We will be stabilising the organisation. By this time next year, when we talk about the second anniversary, you'll be talking about a completely different picture,” Mpofu added.

The MKP’s rapid rise and its efforts to overcome internal challenges will be under the spotlight as it marks this significant milestone in its political journey.
