The case against Longwe Twala has been postponed to December 4 by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg. The delay will allow the investigating officer additional time to verify the accused’s personal details.

Twala, son of renowned songwriter Chicco Twala, appeared briefly in court this morning following his re-arrest on Tuesday. He was taken into custody after failing to appear in court on November 25, violating his bail conditions.

The charges stem from a case opened by his father, who accused Longwe and his brother of breaking into his home and stealing studio equipment valued at over R200,000.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed that Twala has the right to apply for bail, but the state is likely to oppose it. “The court will decide on his contempt of court hearing, which may influence his bail application. The state will oppose the application as he has already proven to be untrustworthy,” said Mjonondwane.

The case continues next month.
