KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating the murder of a 53-year-old man whose body was found wrapped in a blanket under a bed in a Ridge Road residence in uMhlanga.
Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said the discovery was made on Friday morning after a resident reported a foul odor coming from a tenant’s room. Security personnel, alongside the Umhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP), inspected the property and found the body.
The deceased, identified as missing person Rakesh Ganesh, had not been seen since Sunday, November 17. His family raised concerns after losing contact with him. Additionally, his vehicle, a bronze Mercedes-Benz E-Class, is missing.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the decomposing body was found after reports of a stench. Police are investigating the case as a murder.
Reaction Unit SA (Rusa) had earlier reported Ganesh missing, stating his cellphone had been off since his disappearance. He was last seen leaving his home on Ridge Road.
Powell emphasized the importance of community vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activity. Investigations are ongoing.
