Retailers across South Africa are gearing up for a profitable Black Friday, as improved economic conditions provide consumers with slightly more disposable income. Lower inflation and interest rates have created a more favorable environment for spending, driving expectations of strong sales.

Chris Wood, a retail expert, noted that while consumers may feel some financial relief, it doesn’t mean everyone has unlimited resources to splurge.

“Black Friday often focuses on clearing out old stock to make way for new inventory as the year turns,” he explained. “Whether it’s a necessity or a luxury item, the goal is to move that stock.”

Retailers are banking on the shopping frenzy to bolster their revenues ahead of the festive season. Consumers, meanwhile, are on the lookout for deals that balance affordability with value, reflecting cautious optimism in spending.
