A KwaZulu-Natal police sergeant has been arrested in connection with the murder of his fiancée, who was shot at their home in Umzimkhulu on the south coast in April.
Sergeant Ntokozo Mngqithi, 34, was taken into custody on Monday following a thorough investigation by the Hawks. According to police, Mngqithi claimed to have found his fiancée's body when he returned home that evening.
Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo confirmed that Mngqithi and his fiancée, Sergeant Ntombi Mbanjwa, were both stationed at the Umzimkhulu Police Station.
Mngqithi briefly appeared in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate's Court and was remanded in custody. The case has been postponed to December 3, 2024, for a bail application.
Investigations into the murder are ongoing, and the community is awaiting further developments in the case.
