A significant police presence was seen outside the Durban North mansion of prominent socialite and businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize on Tuesday, as South African Revenue Service (SARS) officials conducted a raid reportedly linked to her tax affairs.
Fifteen police vehicles were stationed at the three entrances to the property, with officers accompanying SARS officials inside. A locksmith and safe specialist, equipped with drills and other tools, were also observed entering the premises.
According to a source, the search stems from a tax-related court order issued in May. The operation extended to Mkhize’s other properties in Pietermaritzburg and Sandton, where similar searches are reportedly underway.
Amid the raid, a security guard was allegedly arrested for possessing five unlicensed firearms. Police have yet to confirm details surrounding the arrest.
Neither SARS nor Mkhize has issued a public statement regarding the raids or the tax investigation.
