Detectives in KwaZulu-Natal are appealing to the public for assistance in locating Jonas George Tsautse (33), who is wanted in connection with the murder of Meluleki Mbewana (32).
Mbewana was fatally shot on September 23, 2020, outside a nightclub in Sydenham. Reports indicate that an argument broke out between the suspect and the victim as they were leaving the venue. Tsautse allegedly shot Mbewana and fled the scene in a vehicle.
Following the incident, Tsautse surrendered to police and was charged with murder. He appeared before the Durban Magistrates Court in 2020, where he was granted bail. However, he failed to appear for his trial scheduled for February 22, 2024, prompting the Durban Regional Court to issue a warrant for his arrest.
Authorities have since been unable to determine his whereabouts.
Police are urging anyone with information about Tsautse’s location to come forward. Captain Thabethe can be reached at 082 458 5549, or tip-offs can be provided anonymously via Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
The Sydenham Police Station continues to investigate the case as efforts to locate the fugitive intensify.
