Residents of Elsies River came together on Sunday to pay tribute to 14-year-old Grantham Jahmiel van Reenen, a Ravensmead High School student who was tragically killed in a shooting earlier this week.
Van Reenen was fatally shot by gunmen while walking to school. The attack also left two other teenagers and a 55-year-old man injured, sparking outrage and grief across the community.
At the memorial, family, friends, and neighbors shared memories of the young boy whose life was cut short. His father expressed profound sorrow, saying, “Nothing is ever going to be the same again.”
The incident has reignited calls for increased safety measures in the area, with many residents demanding justice for Grantham and greater action to curb violence affecting young lives.
