The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for disruptive rainfall across the Eastern Cape today, with significant downpours already recorded since midnight.

Forecasters predict that some areas in the province could see rainfall totals ranging from 40 to 70 millimetres. However, the heaviest rainfall is expected in the eastern part of Port Alfred, which will likely experience more intense conditions than other regions.

Kevin Ingram, a forecaster with SAWS, explained, "While some places may record between 40 and 70 millimetres of rain, not all areas will experience that level of rainfall. The regions most likely to receive higher amounts are primarily located to the north of East London and extending to the south."

Ingram also noted that a level four warning has been issued for these areas, where the risk of heavy rainfall and potential flooding is greatest. The public is urged to stay alert and prepared for possible disruptions.
