The inquest into the tragic deaths of 21 young patrons at Enyobeni Tavern is set to continue today, with former employee Thembisa Diko expected to conclude her testimony at the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court. The proceedings aim to determine if any parties can be held criminally accountable for the tragedy.
As part of the investigation, the court recently visited the tavern to conduct an assessment, giving families a firsthand look at the scene where their loved ones lost their lives. Among those present was Ntombizonke Mgangala, a parent of one of the victims. Reflecting on the visit, Mgangala described it as a deeply emotional experience.
“I wanted to see the place, especially after viewing the photos and knowing where my child lay that day," Mgangala shared. "It wasn’t easy, but someone had to face it. You want the truth about what happened.”
The inquest continues to draw significant public attention as families and the community seek answers and accountability for the tragic loss of young lives.
