A tragic incident occurred near Mbazwana in the Mkhanyakude District when a medical bus transporting 60 patients collided with a stray cow on Thursday.
According to Nathi Olifant from the KZN Health Department, the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicle lost control after hitting the cow. "One patient who was trapped in the wrecked bus sadly passed away, while the rest of the passengers and two crew members sustained minor injuries and were transported to eMseleni Hospital," Olifant reported.
In a related incident within the same district, two children were injured when another EMS vehicle struck a cow while transporting them from Itshelejuba Hospital to Ngwelezane Hospital. The local authorities are urging caution as such accidents pose serious risks to road users, especially in areas where livestock may stray onto highways.
