This Ferrari 12Cilindri Scale model costs more than R300k
Or you could just buy an actual car
What happens when the world’s most famous prancing horse gets miniaturised? Well, you end up with something like this: a Ferrari 12Cilindri in 1:8 scale, painstakingly crafted by the wizards at Amalgam. But don’t think for a second that being smaller makes it cheaper. This model will set you back more than R300k.
But this isn’t just any model. It’s a near-perfect replica, a miniature masterpiece that’s been handcrafted to mimic every curve and detail of the life-sized Ferrari. You’re looking at a work of art, not a toy. And like the real thing, owning one requires more than just loose change.
To put things in perspective, while a full-sized Ferrari 12Cilindri will cost you around R12 million, this scaled-down version starts at R314 000. But here’s the catch: you won’t be driving this beauty anywhere. Instead, you’ll be admiring it from your desk or displaying it in your man cave. There are far worse ways to spend an afternoon than gazing at its immaculate Rosso Imola paintwork.
It’s not just the price that’s jaw-dropping it’s the sheer amount of time and effort that’s gone into making it. Amalgam spent over 3,000 hours designing the replica, working directly with Ferrari to ensure every proportion is precise. Each model is assembled by hand, with over 300 hours dedicated to putting it together. We’re talking about the same attention to detail Ferrari themselves would pour into their road-going machines.
And the detail is incredible. From the Blu Sterling interior, complete with red contrast stitching, to tiny functional features like the door latches, it’s a perfect reflection of the real 12Cilindri. There are even digital displays on the dashboard. What’s missing, unfortunately, is a peek under the bonnet. The model keeps the V12 engine tucked away, and that’s a shame because seeing the 6.5-litre, naturally aspirated beast in miniature would have been a sight to behold. In the real car, this powerplant churns out a staggering 611kW and revs all the way past 9,000rpm an engine that is the heart and soul of the Ferrari experience.
For those who want something even more exclusive, Amalgam is offering a limited run of 398 replicas 199 hardtops and 199 Spiders. And if exclusivity is your game, Amalgam can go one step further and build you a bespoke, one-of-one version to your exact specifications. That, of course, will set you back around R463 000.
If this price tag is still too steep, there’s a smaller 1:18 scale version available for a more wallet-friendly R24 500.
For the discerning collector or anyone looking to own a piece of Ferrari’s soul, Amalgam’s bespoke service lets you tailor the model to match your exact car right down to the paint sample cards and leather swatches from Ferrari’s official options. "We ensure every detail is perfect, making each 12Cilindri model not just a replica, but a reflection of the owner’s personal taste and style,” says Sandy Copeman, Amalgam Collection’s founder.
If you've ever wanted a Ferrari that you can park on your desk without breaking the bank on garage fees this could be the one for you. Just don’t expect to take it for a spin.
