The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has filed charges of fraud and corruption against the National Treasury, Oracle, and SETA in connection with the failed Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS). Members of the MK Party, including MP Des Van Rooyen, visited the Brooklyn Police Station in Hillcrest, Pretoria, today to open the case.

The IFMS project, initiated in 2017, involved a contract with Oracle to provide a system aimed at improving integration and municipal financial management. However, despite the significant investment, the system has not been implemented, costing South African taxpayers millions.

Speaking on behalf of the MK Party, Van Rooyen emphasized the need for accountability. "Since we are dealing with a government ministry, we are calling on the executive authority and the accounting officer to explain to the nation what went wrong. The same goes for the leadership of Oracle and SETA. We believe that a thorough investigation by law enforcement will identify those responsible for this irregular expenditure. The amount involved is substantial."

The MK Party is urging law enforcement to uncover the full extent of the financial mismanagement linked to the failed project.
