An investigation is currently underway following a tragic fire at the Broadwalk Urban Village residential complex in Midrand, north of Johannesburg, which resulted in one fatality. Several other individuals sustained injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The fire caused significant damage to the complex, which consists of approximately 130 apartments and around 60 units.
Xolile Khumalo, spokesperson for Johannesburg Emergency Services, confirmed that a probe has been initiated to determine the cause of the blaze.
“Investigations into what led to the incident are ongoing. Residents will soon have the opportunity to return to the complex to retrieve their remaining personal belongings,” Khumalo stated. She also urged Johannesburg residents to ensure that electrical appliances are turned off after use to prevent similar incidents in the future.
