The mother of one of the boys allegedly abused by a community leader in Verulam is calling for the harshest possible punishment. The woman revealed that her son reported being threatened by the coach, who allegedly said he would kill the boy and his family if he spoke out. The coach is accused of drugging the boys under the guise of providing energy pills.

The 57-year-old man faces serious charges, including the rape of four boys and sexual assault of several others in the Waterloo area. He was known for teaching bible studies and soccer to the children. His bail application at the Verulam Magistrate's Court has been postponed until September 17.

The mother of a 14-year-old boy shared how the year-long abuse was uncovered and described the profound impact on the children. “They no longer want to go to school. On Wednesday, we had to take them to a social worker for counseling,” she said. She expressed disappointment and betrayal, stating that the children were previously kept busy with sports and bible studies, making them feel safe.

The mother stressed that justice should extend beyond a severe prison sentence. “We hope his bail is denied and that he receives the harshest sentence possible so that he remains in prison. He has shamed himself and our community. We demand that he be convicted of all his crimes.”
