The Giyani Water Project, aimed at providing water to residents in 46 villages, has yet to deliver on its promise. The initiative has faced frequent stoppages and significant cost overruns, with allegations of corruption complicating the situation.

A report from the Special Investigating Unit last year revealed that tender awards were improperly handled, causing the project's budget to soar from R90 million to R4.1 billion. Officials are accused of violating supply-chain management processes.

Residents are still waiting for the water they were promised. In response, Deputy President Paul Mashatile is scheduled to inspect water infrastructure projects in Limpopo on Friday. He will be evaluating the progress made in improving water services in Giyani.
