A rights group is organizing a protest outside the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Thursday, where a 57-year-old school soccer coach is scheduled to appear on charges of sexual abuse. The coach is accused of assaulting 40 boys in the Waterloo area, where he also served as a Bible studies teacher.
Shazia Khan from WomanPact stated that the group will oppose the coach’s bail and call for stronger measures to protect children. “Authorities and community leaders must take immediate action to safeguard our children. This includes stricter enforcement of laws against sexual violence, education programs in schools and communities, and creating safe spaces for children to report abuse without fear.”
Khan emphasized the group's commitment to standing in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence and their determination to not tolerate any form of child abuse.
