A man accused of murdering three individuals, including eThekwini metro police officer Siyathokoza Mthethwa, is set to appear in court on Friday. The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, six months after Mthethwa, along with his friends Merik Thringe and Nkanyiso Makhanya, was killed at a Shisanyama in Lamontville.
Simphiwe Mhlongo of the KZN Hawks reported that the suspect and his accomplices confronted the victims, leading to an argument. The dispute escalated, resulting in the suspects firing multiple shots before fleeing the scene. Mthethwa and his friends were pronounced dead at the scene.
A triple murder case was filed at the Lamontville police station and was subsequently assigned to the Hawks for a comprehensive investigation. Following recent leads, the Hawks arrested the suspect in Umlazi. Further arrests are anticipated.
The suspect faces three counts of murder and will appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 6 September 2024.
