Taxi operators from the Menlyn Taxi Association are set to march to Tshwane House in Pretoria this morning to demand compensation from the City of Tshwane. The protest is in response to the impact of the Areyeng Bus Rapid Transit system on their operations.

The taxi operators will assemble on Kgosi Mampuru and Madiba Streets before proceeding to Tshwane House. A representative of the association, known only as Mr. Koko, stated that they are seeking a meeting with the City Manager to address their grievances.

“We have a memorandum of agreement with the City regarding compensation for the use of our routes, specifically the Eastern suburbs. The agreement stipulated that members would be compensated if they were bought out of their routes,” Mr. Koko explained. He added that despite several promise letters, the operators have not received the agreed-upon compensation. The protest aims to address these issues and ensure that their concerns are heard.
