The Durban High Court will commence the trial of three men accused of murdering an eThekwini metro police officer next month. The officer, Errol Ogle, was tragically killed last July after stopping a truck driving against traffic on the Hans Dettman Highway. Unbeknownst to Ogle, the truck was in the midst of a hijacking.

As Ogle approached the vehicle, occupants of a nearby car opened fire, fatally wounding him. The suspects, identified as Sabelo Mncube, Mzomuhle Gamede, and Phakamani Mpanza, were apprehended by authorities within days of the incident. They now face charges including murder, armed robbery, hijacking, and kidnapping.

Ogle's wife, Faith, was present in court on Thursday when the trial dates were announced. She expressed her gratitude for the swift action taken by the Hawks, the specialized police unit handling the case. "I am happy with the outstanding work done by the Hawks. It was a very swift arrest - within 48 hours. I believe that the evidence they have gathered will bring us justice," she said.

The trial is scheduled to run from August 26th to September 20th.
