Johannesburg residents may soon see a change in city leadership as the ANC's Johannesburg caucus is set to reclaim the mayoral position amid various urban challenges.
The move comes as Action SA is reportedly considering collaboration with the ANC in Gauteng to stabilize key municipalities across the province.
In 2023, the City of Johannesburg was led by two mayors from AL Jama-ah—Kabelo Gwamanda and Thapelo Amad. Their tenure might be ending soon, with Sello Enoch Dada Morero, who served as mayor for just 25 days, poised to return to office.
AL Jama-ah has acknowledged the speculation regarding Gwamanda's potential removal but has labeled it as mere media rumor. The Gauteng chairperson of AL Jama-ah has expressed concern over the possible change.
The ANC in Gauteng, meanwhile, is still awaiting direction from its regional executive committee on the preferred candidate for mayor.
