Outgoing Police Minister Bheki Cele has praised all long-serving police officers for their dedication in fulfilling their duties. Cele, alongside National Commissioner Fanie Masemola, awarded Gold medals to officers with over 30 years of service in the force.

These medals are bestowed upon SAPS members holding the rank of Major General or higher, recognizing their exemplary leadership and commitment shown through personal example.

Recipients are evaluated based on their performance over the five years preceding their current rank appointment.

Cele emphasized that the awardees are recognized for their unwavering commitment and outstanding contributions to the service.

"For the fact that they have served 30 years, with some nearing 40 years, it signifies their dedication and commitment," said Cele. "They have proven themselves through their dedication."

The recipients of the Gold medals expressed their pride in being law enforcement officers, highlighting the responsibility that comes with the role.

Major General Mary Cockey Motsepe shared her motivation: "It inspires me and gives me strength to carry out my duties every day until my retirement in the South African Police Service. This medal reminds me of my journey, serving our communities, investigating and preventing crime."

Johannesburg District Commissioner Max Masha advised new police officers to uphold honesty and integrity, urging them to resist corruption.

"The work itself is challenging as it involves ensuring public safety and addressing crime challenges," Masha noted. "New officers must remain positive, reject negativity, and resist temptations. The community may try to corrupt or bribe you, but stay true to the law. The longer you uphold honesty, the longer you serve."
