The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (Sahpra) has reassured the public that no diethylene glycol traces were found in the recalled batches of Benylin. This conclusion came after Sahpra conducted independent tests following a report from the Nigerian National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, which had detected high levels of the toxin in Benylin. Sahpra’s Senior Manager of Inspectorate and Regulatory Compliance, Deon Poovan, stated that the manufacturer conducted a full investigation into the production of the batches. Sahpra also tested samples of the recalled Benylin Paediatric batches independently and found no traces of diethylene glycol, subsequently reporting these findings to the public.
